LANDSCAPES
In Western Australia, it is common for artists to be affected by the light, the space, the air. The light is so strong that it produces strong shadows. I feel lino-cuts can express the balance between light and shadow beautifully. Because of the strong black, bright colours can also be used. Lino-cuts depict the drama that happens when balancing light and dark.
It is by looking into the shadow and accepting it that one develops the ability to grow and move forward in life. So many people don't want to acknowledge the shadow and often comment that my work is too dark.
Endless space, harsh beauty and special light epitomize the Western Australian landscape for me and I love it.
